celebrated yoke's birthday at church office after tape listening. close knitted affair and a heart warming one. went for yong tau fu and then jane wanted to try hei but awfully chocolate was closed. travelled to ps to buy ice cream and then it's home sweet home.
ok, since pastor jeff agreed that i do know where the good food are... i shall post them and share with all of my readers. now you know why i've been getting propserous.
river valley
fish head steamboat. their ha chiong kai (prawn paste chicken) is crispy and fragrant. definitely a must eat. their fish head soup is even better, with fried eggs in it... wha... not to mention their kou lou yok (sweet and sour pork), which is not full of fats and little meat but it's the other way round with crisp bite. they sell slice fish soup with vermicelli or rice too.
tiong bahru
this cantonese tse char sells this hard to find dish. pork neck in spring onion and ginger. wha!!! until now i really cannot forget the taste of this dish. the flesh of the neck literally melts in your mouth. literally. as for the last slice left on the plate, i shamelessly asked my friend's mum to let me have it. it's that good.
toa payoh
kway chap. this is the only kwap chap stall that i eat at because first, the giam chye (salted veggie) has a subtle hint of saltiness and crunchiness. just the way i like. the kway is thin and the meat doesnt smell of those pork smell. usually i'll eat 2 bowls at a go.
cantonese chix rice. num kee. they serve only soy chix and their wanton is really huge! al dente noodles and the soy chix... wha... pearls, livi, eilton and me went there once and we paid like $8 per pax for a plate of chix rice but overall... we all agreed that it's good lah! expensive though...
havelock road
teochew porridge... first, good teochew porridge is hard to find, and they cook the porridge with the right consistency with the right amount of water. the steam fish with those simple fish cake dishes is pretty authentic and delicious too.
hainanese chap chye bng. this hainanese rice is my favourite chup chye bng stall. their crispy chicken is like biscuit crumbs. very crispy!!! the curry gravy which they pour over the rice, those steam meat patties... gosh... di2 went there once, and we must go there again this month okie?
bak kut teh... it's pretty expensive for a bak kut teh meal but then again thats the only stall of bak kut teh that i like... the kidney and liver soup (comments from na and bon) it's very fresh. the soup is not too peppery and the giam chye... wha... haven touch bak kut teh in months...
bukit gombak
this tiny stall sells mee chiam kway (peanut pancake) with your choice of either crispy or chewable pancake. usually we order a crispy one. the butter with sugar one is the best. way much better than the chocolate one. and im still waiting for jane to drive me...hint hint...
katong
katong laska. what else right? with curry noodles christianed after the street it must be good lah~ anyways i'm always eating at the 1st stall at the right side of the road. though i think they all taste the same.
hakka yong tau fu. tried my so called first authentic yong tau fu. not bad actually, the sauce is the best. uber thick, unlike those foodcourt diluted kind and the noodles... hen Q wor~ and they dont have sausages, crab meat or even fried wanton. different from the norm that we usually eat. great atmosphere too, i think we shall go there again next week =D
ghim moh
tse char. this kopitiam named elijah has this tse char stall which has one of the best thai style chili fish (i dont usually eat chili but for this dish, i must hahaha). this dish is the best seller. but they're closing down soon due to extra rental fees...
balestier
hokkien mee aka sotong me aka fried prawn noodles. jane called this stall bao ya mei (buck tooth stall cos the auntie has a little bit of buck tooth) anyways, it's really really good!!! i remembered i brought di2 there and even jane and shelby who usually cannot finish their rice or noodles, finish every single bit of the fried noodles. really, its very very good. 10 points for this stall!
geylang
day time, this stall sells duck rice and turtle soup (san rui, but of cos, i prefer the quakies) their duck rice is not the norm braised duck but its herbal braised duck. super nice.
night time. this stall is located at the same place as the duck rice stall. anyways this stall sin huat, was featured in times magazine and in new york times. how's that? anthony bourdain was with makansutra's sitoh when he introduced this stall. after watching i decided to taste it for myself since everything they ordered looks so good. it does. it really really does. every single dish has garlic. chopped, puree, fried, raw whatever. it's soo good. everything is good. signature dish. crab bee hoon. i remembered i saw this japanese man ordering one plate while perspiring. and he die die also must finish till the last drop, even tilting the plate to drink the gravy. not going to say much cos i've mention about sin huat before in my sept 13 post. can take a look...
for reference, do take a look at the pics.

ah... lastly. to top it off, do drink isle cafe's milo peng. thats the best. oh, excercise ok.
tape listening was mentioning about 3 attitudes which we must have in order to finish the race. (1) humility (2) obedience (3) full heartedness... i couldnt agree more. sometimes there are people who have powerful visions or even the passion to do God's work but only a few manage to finish the race and complete the task as much as one can. one missionary couple went to china to spread the word. until one day the wife was seen sobbing, the startled husband asked her whats wrong? her reply. God is dead. huh? well she meant the way you're behaving is like as if God is dead. so... am i behaving as if God is dead?
last week's tape listening. real story. some christian live television broadcast's lines was being mixed up with the playboy channel. so apparently, the verse," repent for the kingdom of God is near" appeared on the playboy screen. i wonder what went through the minds of those watching playboy.
thinking: we wont know how proud we are until we humble ourselves.
